KULIMO — Services
SEO & GEO Agency Berlin: Get Found Where It Counts
Today, visibility is decided in three places: in classic Google results, in the local map pack, and increasingly in AI answers from ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews. KULIMO positions your business in all three, with technical SEO as the foundation, local SEO for Berlin, and GEO for AI search. Not as an add-on package after the fact, but as an integral part of every website we build.

SEO agency Berlin: the essentials at a glance
This page explains how we work as an SEO studio in Berlin, from the technical foundation to local SEO and GEO to costs and metrics.
Classic SEO
Technology, structure, and content as the foundation of visibility.
Local SEO
Visible in Berlin, in your neighborhood, and on the map.
GEO and AI answers
Show up as a source when AI answers.
Technical foundation
Crawling, indexing, and load time as prerequisites.
Costs
What actually drives the effort behind SEO.
Metrics
Four numbers we use to prove progress.
Three places customers look for you today
1. Classic Google search
Someone searching for “tax advisor Berlin” or “restaurant ordering system” clicks on the top organic results. Here, your website’s technology, content, and authority make the difference.
2. The local map pack
For searches with a local intent, Google shows three businesses with a map, reviews, and a call button, above the regular results. Here, your Google Business Profile, reviews, and consistent business data make the difference.
3. AI answers
A growing share of searches is answered directly by AI, without a click on a results list. Only sources that are clearly structured, verifiable, and unambiguous as an entity get cited there. That’s GEO: Generative Engine Optimization.
If you only play in one of these three channels, you leave the other two to your competitors. Our work covers all three, on a shared technical foundation.
Classic SEO: the foundation
Technical SEO
Clean site structure, fast load times (Core Web Vitals), correct indexing, structured data, and working redirects. Without this foundation, any content falls flat.
Content built on search intent
Pages that answer exactly the question the searcher has: one page per topic, no internal competition, and clear links between them.
Structure & authority
Topic clusters instead of standalone articles: pillar pages, supporting guides, and internal links that show Google what your domain stands for.
And the honest expectation: SEO is an endurance sport. First improvements typically show up after four to eight weeks; lasting top rankings usually take three to six months of consistent work. Anyone who promises you the #1 spot in two weeks is selling you a promise, not craftsmanship.
Local SEO: visible in Berlin, visible in your neighborhood
Almost half of all searches have local intent. For Berlin service businesses, the local pack (the three map results) largely determines how many new customers you win. Four building blocks get you there:
Google Business Profile
Complete, up to date, with real photos, correct categories, and regular posts.
Consistent business data (NAP)
Name, address, and phone number identical on your website, your profile, and in directories. Inconsistencies cost trust with Google and with AI systems.
Reviews
The strongest local ranking factor, and the most honest one: You can’t buy reviews without risking everything. We build the process that guides satisfied customers to leave a review; you deliver the service that earns it.
Local content
Pages with a genuine local connection: case studies from the district, local directions, neighborhood-specific services. No copied district pages with swapped-out place names: Google recognizes them, and Google penalizes them.

GEO: visible when AI answers
AI systems don’t quote marketing copy; they cite sources that make their job easy. That’s exactly what we optimize for:
Answer first
Every important page answers its core question in the first few sentences, ready to quote, without beating around the bush.
A clear entity
Consistent structured data (organization, location, services), linked profiles, and consistent company information across the web, so AI systems know exactly who you are.
Verifiable claims
AI favors content with traceable data and methodology. One real number with a source beats ten superlatives.
Machine-readable structure
A clean heading hierarchy, FAQ markup, and curated content for AI crawlers.
To see how this works in detail, read our guide SEO & GEO Berlin: Google and AI Visibility — the same approach we use for client projects.

The difference: for us, SEO isn’t an add-on
Most SEO agencies optimize websites someone else built, and constantly run into technical limits: a slow theme, an inflexible structure, no access to the code.
At KULIMO, visibility is created where it’s cheapest: during the build. We work as a digital product studio and build websites and web apps ourselves. Site structure, load time, structured data, and content are designed for visibility from the start, instead of being retrofitted at great expense later. And when an existing website needs optimizing, as developers we know how deep we can go.
What we don’t do
Honesty is part of the service, so here’s a clear list of what you won’t get from us:
No bought links.
Buying links violates Google’s guidelines and puts your domain at risk.
No bought or swapped reviews.
A single fake that gets exposed costs more trust than fifty genuine ones build.
No ranking guarantees.
Nobody controls Google. Anyone who promises a “guaranteed #1 spot” is promising something they can’t deliver.
No doorway pages.
Mass-produced location or keyword pages without real content do more harm in the medium term than they bring in the short term.
No meaningless reports.
You get metrics that relate to inquiries, not 40 pages of ranking exports without context.
How we work
Visibility audit
Where do you stand in Google, in the local pack, and in AI answers, and where do your competitors stand? Technology, content, profiles, data.Outcome: a prioritized action list.
Strategy
Which search queries bring inquiries, not just visitors? We define topics, pages, and priorities.Outcome: a roadmap with clear milestones.
Technical implementation
Structure, load time, structured data, indexing: the foundation everything ranks on.Outcome: a technically clean website.
Content & local signals
Pages built on search intent, Google Business Profile, a review process, consistent data.Outcome: growing visibility across all three channels.
Measure & refine
Monthly reporting with the numbers that matter (visibility, clicks, inquiries) and the next steps.Outcome: progress you can follow.
The technical foundation: found, read, understood
Before content can rank, it has to be reachable and understandable. This part of SEO is invisible, and it’s the most common reason good pages don’t get found.
Crawling and indexing
Can the search engine find all your important pages in the first place? Faulty sitemaps, accidental blocks in robots.txt, or orphaned subpages cost visibility without anyone noticing. Google describes the fundamentals in its SEO Starter Guide.
Content without JavaScript hurdles
If text only appears after scripts run, indexing is a matter of luck. We deliver the relevant content server-side, which is also faster for people.
Load time as a ranking factor
The Core Web Vitals measurably factor into rankings. Google publishes reference values and measurement methods at web.dev.
Structured data
Markup based on schema.org makes services, locations, and reviews machine-readable. For classic SEO, that brings richer search results; for GEO, it’s the prerequisite for being cited at all.
Clean redirects
Every old URL needs a destination. Without a redirect plan, a relaunch loses exactly the visibility that took years to build.
Content that truly answers a question
Most company pages describe an offering. But people search for a problem. The gap between those two phrasings is where most untapped visibility lies.
Start from the question
What does someone type who needs your offering but can’t name it yet? That exact phrasing belongs in the headline, and the answer in the first paragraph, not at the bottom of the page.
One page, one purpose
Catch-all pages that cover four services at once rank for none of them. A clear separation creates pages that reinforce each other instead of getting in each other’s way.
Evidence, not claims
Numbers, examples, named projects. Verifiable statements are the difference between copy that gets cited and copy that stays interchangeable.
Keep content visibly current
Prices, deadlines, and procedures change. A well-maintained set of pages beats a large number of forgotten ones, which is also why we review existing content before creating new content.
What SEO costs in Berlin, and why
SEO isn’t a product with a list price. Four factors determine how much work is actually needed.
Size and condition of the website
Twenty pages or two thousand? And in what technical condition? On a cleanly built site, SEO starts with content; on one that has grown over time, it starts with cleanup.
Competition for the keywords
A niche term with fifty searches a month can be reached in weeks. A fiercely contested term in Berlin takes months and considerably more substance.
Division of implementation
Do we implement the measures ourselves, or do we hand specifications to your team? Both work, but they make a significant difference in effort.
Volume of new content
SEO without new content is optimizing what already exists, and that eventually runs out. How many new pages get created is therefore the biggest ongoing cost.
We work either with a one-time audit including a prioritized action list, or with a monthly retainer. The audit is the more honest starting point: you see what needs to be done and then decide who does it.
Five mistakes that make SEO ineffective
These patterns cost months. Knowing them saves you the detour.
Optimizing for terms nobody searches for
Internal product names and industry jargon rarely end up in the search bar. Good SEO starts with the question of which words your customers actually use, not how you talk about your own offering.
Many pages on the same topic
Three pages about the same service compete with each other instead of reinforcing each other. Consolidating that content is often the single most effective SEO step of all.
Writing for search engines instead of people
Bloated paragraphs with repeated keywords now tend to do more harm than good. SEO and good readability stopped being at odds long ago; they depend on each other.
Giving up after three months
Visibility doesn’t grow in a straight line. The first weeks show technical effects; content effects take six months. Stop earlier, and you pay for the work but forgo the results.
Looking only at rankings
Third place for a term with no demand gets you nothing. Meaningful SEO measures inquiries and qualified visits, not positions on a list.
Collaboration: roles, rhythm, reports
Visibility comes from small, regular steps. Making that work takes less effort than expected, but it has to be reliable.
One dedicated contact
On our side and on yours. One person who makes decisions and answers questions speeds up a project more than any additional tool.
A monthly rhythm
A short meeting, a concise report, and a list of what’s next. Not a thirty-page document nobody reads.
Expert review
We review copy about your services together with you. We know search, you know your field, and both have to come together.
In our experience, the effort on your side is two to four hours a month, mostly for subject-matter feedback and approvals. We handle everything else. After each quarter, we look at the progress together and decide whether priorities stay the same or shift.
Metrics: how we measure progress
Reports should enable decisions, not impress. Four numbers show whether SEO is working.
Visible search queries
How many different terms do you show up for at all? This breadth grows earlier than individual top spots and is the first reliable sign that SEO is taking hold.
Clicks from search
Impressions show visibility; clicks show relevance. If the two diverge sharply, it’s usually down to the title or the description, and both are quick to fix.
Inquiries from organic traffic
The number that matters. Everything else is an intermediate step.
Mentions in AI answers
For GEO, we regularly check whether your business shows up as a source. Without structured data and verifiable claims, that rarely happens.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions about SEO & GEO
What’s the difference between SEO and GEO?
SEO optimizes your website for classic search engines like Google, with the goal of strong organic rankings. GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) optimizes for AI search systems like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews, with the goal of being cited as a source in AI-generated answers. Both share the same technical foundation; if you only focus on one, you miss a growing part of your audience.
How long does it take for SEO to work?
First improvements typically show up after four to eight weeks; lasting top rankings usually take three to six months of consistent optimization. There are no credible promises shorter than that; Google rewards substance, not speed.
Do you guarantee the #1 spot on Google?
No, and nobody can credibly do so. What we do guarantee: clean work that follows Google’s guidelines, transparent measures, and reporting that honestly shows what’s moving and what isn’t yet.
Is SEO worth it for small businesses too?
Especially then. Local searches like “dentist Prenzlauer Berg” have little volume but the highest purchase intent, and the local pack is the most attainable place in the sun for small businesses. Local SEO is often the most cost-effective sales channel a Berlin business can have.
Do I really need GEO already?
The share of searches answered directly by AI is growing, especially for comparison and recommendation questions (“Who builds custom software in Berlin?”). Becoming citable now builds a lead that will be expensive for others to catch up on later. And good GEO fundamentals are good SEO, so the work pays off twice.
Do you also optimize websites that KULIMO didn’t build?
Yes. The audit shows how much is possible on the existing foundation and where the technical limits are. If the foundation itself turns out to be the real problem, we’ll say so openly instead of selling you optimization built on sand.
What about Google Ads?
Ads and SEO complement each other: ads deliver instant visibility, while SEO builds the channel that doesn’t cost per click. If you wish, we manage both, with the clear goal of reducing your dependence on ad spend over time.
What do the costs depend on?
On the scope: a one-time audit, project-based optimization, or an ongoing retainer with content and reporting. After the intro call, you receive a fixed-price quote with no hidden line items.
Can we implement SEO ourselves?
Yes, and for smaller websites that often makes sense. We then provide the audit, priorities, and concrete specifications, and your team implements them. We review the implementation and correct where needed. That’s the most affordable route, provided someone internally actually has the time; that’s a more common stumbling block than know-how.
Do you buy backlinks?
No. Bought links are a calculable risk with incalculable damage. We work on content that earns links on its own merit, on listings in relevant directories, and on genuine partnerships. It’s slower, but it lasts.
What happens if we end our collaboration?
Everything we’ve built stays with you: content, technical improvements, documentation, and access. SEO work is substance on your own website, not a rented ad format that ends with the contract.
How are SEO and GEO connected?
They share the same foundation. Both need clean technology, a clear structure, and claims that can be verified. The difference lies in the goal: classic search engines bring people to your site, while AI systems quote your statements in an answer. If you pursue only one, you leave the other half of your visibility on the table, and the effort for combining both is considerably smaller than for two separate tracks.
How often do you report on progress?
Monthly, in a short format: what was implemented, what the numbers show, and what’s next. You also have access to the dashboard with current figures at any time. Once a quarter, we take more time to review the overall direction; that’s where we decide whether priorities should shift.
Let’s find out where you’re invisible
In the intro call, we look at your three visibility channels together (Google, the local pack, and AI answers) and find the point with the biggest leverage. No obligation, concrete, and no sales pressure.
