Website redesign in Berlin: rethought, without losing your rankings.

A relaunch is a move. We pack with a plan.

As a website redesign agency in Berlin, KULIMO modernizes existing websites in seven predictable phases: from an honest audit through redesign, technology, and content migration to the redirect mapping that carries your Google rankings, backlinks, and inquiries safely through the move. At a fixed price, with a fixed go-live date — for companies in Berlin and across Germany.

When a relaunch makes sense

Not every old website needs a relaunch.

Sometimes three targeted fixes are enough.

A relaunch is expensive, ties up your team, and carries a risk: any website that changes its URLs, content, and structure can lose rankings. That’s why, in the intro call, we also tell you when a relaunch is not necessary — and suggest targeted improvements instead. These signs point to a relaunch:

Technology at end of life

An outdated CMS with no updates, an unsupported PHP version, page-builder bloat, load times over three seconds, no Core Web Vitals in the green.

Unusable on mobile

The website was designed for desktop; on smartphones, layouts, forms, and navigation break. Yet most of your visitors are on mobile.

Brand and offering no longer fit

New services, new audiences, new positioning — but the website still tells the story from five years ago.

Nobody can maintain it

Changes take days, content is trapped in layouts, and the agency that built it can no longer be reached.

Legal requirements

Accessibility under the BFSG (Germany’s Accessibility Strengthening Act, in effect since June 28, 2025), GDPR-compliant embeds, cookie consent — often impossible to retrofit on an old foundation.

No inquiries

The traffic is there, but the contacts aren’t: unclear user journeys, missing trust signals, no conversion path.

Terms

Redesign, relaunch, or refresh?

The three terms often get mixed up — and that is exactly what leads to the wrong budgets. Here’s how we tell them apart:

TermWhat changesSEO riskTypical timeframe
RefreshVisuals, images, individual copy; structure and URLs stay the samelowDays to 2 weeks
RedesignNew design and UX on existing or new technology; structure largely unchangedmedium — templates and internal links change3–6 weeks
RelaunchNew structure, new URLs, often a new CMS, revised contenthigh — without redirect mapping, rankings are at risk6–10 weeks

Which option your website needs is decided by the audit in phase 1 — not by gut feeling in a sales conversation.

Process

The relaunch in seven phases

Each phase ends with your sign-off.

01

Audit

We record what your website delivers today: rankings and clicks from Search Console, top pages, backlinks, conversion paths, technology, content, and legal. The result: a list of what has to stay — and what can go.

02

Strategy & structure

Goals, target audiences, positioning. A new site architecture with keywords mapped to each page, user journeys, and conversion points. At this stage, every old URL already gets its destination in the new structure.

03

Design & UX

Design in Figma: typography, color system, components, mobile-first. Two revision rounds are included. You see the new website before development begins.

04

Technology & development

WordPress with a custom theme or — for application-like projects — a web app built with Next.js. Core Web Vitals, accessibility to WCAG 2.1 AA, and GDPR compliance are built in, not bolted on. Preview and approval before launch.

05

Content migration

Content is revised, not just copied: copy tightened and sharpened, images optimized, metadata rewritten, internal linking built out, schema markup added. Old pages without value are deliberately merged.

06

Launch QA & go-live

Redirect table fully tested, tracking migrated, forms checked, sitemap and robots.txt in place, browser and device testing, performance measurement. Go-live on the agreed date — ideally not on a Friday.

Monitoring & fine-tuning

For four weeks after launch, we closely monitor Search Console, crawl errors, rankings, and conversions, and make adjustments. A review after three months, and ongoing maintenance on request.

Relaunch SEO

How we prevent ranking losses during a relaunch

Most ranking losses after a relaunch come down to one of five causes. All five are avoidable — if you address them before launch:

  • Missing 301 redirects: Every old URL with rankings or backlinks is redirected 1:1 to the most relevant new page — not wholesale to the homepage.
  • Deleted content that had value: Pages that bring in traffic are revised or merged, never quietly removed.
  • Lost metadata and structure: Titles, descriptions, heading hierarchy, canonicals, and schema markup are deliberately set up again.
  • Forgotten technical details: Staging with noindex, live without; new XML sitemap, robots.txt, hreflang, Search Console, and tracking switched over on launch day.
  • No monitoring: Crawl errors, 404 spikes, and ranking shifts only get noticed if someone is looking — we do that in the first weeks after launch.

To be honest: Even a perfect relaunch can show fluctuations in the first few weeks while Google processes the new structure. Lasting losses are caused by mistakes — and those can be avoided.

Checklist

The relaunch checklist we use ourselves

We work through these points before go-live — and you can check them at any time. For the detailed version with explanations, see our guide Website Relaunch Checklist.

Before launch

  • URL inventory and redirect table complete
  • Top content and backlink targets secured
  • Metadata, canonicals, and schema in place
  • Staging set to noindex, access protected
  • Forms, tracking, and consent tested
  • Core Web Vitals and WCAG 2.1 AA checked

On launch day

  • noindex removed, robots.txt live
  • Redirects tested with spot checks and automated tests
  • XML sitemap submitted in Search Console
  • Tracking and goals verified
  • SSL, hreflang, and 404 page checked
  • Backup of the old site kept

After launch

  • Check crawl errors and 404 spikes closely
  • Monitor rankings and clicks for top pages
  • Check form submissions and conversions
  • Update external links (Google Business Profile, directories, social)
  • Review after four weeks and after three months
  • Plan maintenance and further development

Cost

What a website relaunch costs

A fixed price after the audit — so before we start, you know what the relaunch costs and when it goes live. For larger projects, you pay in milestones.

01

Size of the existing website

Number of URLs with rankings, volume of content, images, downloads — this determines the migration effort.

02

Depth of the overhaul

Refresh, redesign, or a full relaunch with a new structure and a new CMS.

03

Features

Shop, booking, members’ area, multiple languages, integrations with your CRM or newsletter.

04

State of the content

Will copy and images be carried over, revised, or created from scratch? On request, we write and produce content too.

For orientation: websites at KULIMO start from €1,270 at a fixed price; a corporate relaunch with a new structure, content migration, and relaunch SEO costs considerably more and typically takes six to ten weeks. What it costs in your case is set out in black and white in the quote after the intro call. Market overview: Website costs in Berlin 2026.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about website redesign and relaunch

How long does a website relaunch take?

A redesign without structural changes takes three to six weeks; a corporate relaunch with a new structure, content migration, and relaunch SEO takes six to ten weeks. The go-live date is part of the fixed-price quote. We build landing pages in seven days.

How much does a website relaunch cost?

That depends on the size of the existing website, the depth of the overhaul, the features, and the state of the content. Websites start from €1,270 at a fixed price; a full corporate relaunch costs considerably more. After the audit, we give you a fixed price — with no hourly billing after the fact.

Will I lose my Google rankings in a relaunch?

Not if the relaunch is done properly: complete 301 redirect mapping, preserving valuable content, deliberately set metadata, the right technical setup on launch day, and monitoring afterward. Short-term fluctuations are normal; lasting losses come from avoidable mistakes.

Can the website be overhauled step by step?

Yes. For large websites, we often recommend a phased relaunch: technology and templates first, then content section by section. This spreads the effort and risk — and delivers visible results sooner.

Do we have to switch CMS?

Only if there’s a reason: missing updates, lock-in, performance, maintenance effort. We handle migrations from website builders, Webflow, Joomla, or TYPO3 to WordPress. If your website is essentially an application, a web app is the better foundation.

What happens to our content?

It is reviewed, assessed, and revised: what brings in traffic and inquiries stays and gets sharpened; what has no value is merged or removed — with a redirect. On request, we also write and produce new content.

Will the new website be accessible?

Yes, to WCAG 2.1 AA — contrast, keyboard navigation, focus, structure, alt text. Since June 28, 2025, Germany’s Accessibility Strengthening Act (BFSG) has required this of many businesses that offer products or services to consumers. A relaunch is the right moment to get it right.

What’s included after go-live?

Four weeks of monitoring and fine-tuning: crawl errors, redirects, rankings, forms, small adjustments. A review after three months. After that, ongoing maintenance at a fixed monthly price on request.

Do we need new copy and images for the relaunch?

Often, in part. After the audit, we tell you exactly which content can be carried over and where new material is needed. On request, we also produce copy, photos, and videos — Brand design & media production.

What sets KULIMO apart as a relaunch agency?

We treat a relaunch as an SEO and technology project, not just a design project: an audit based on Search Console data, redirect mapping as a must, Core Web Vitals and accessibility as acceptance criteria, and four weeks of fine-tuning after launch included — at a fixed price with a fixed date.
